THE HISTORY
OF CLARION BOATS
Crafting Modern Mahogany Boats Since 1988
A legacy of craftsmanship, innovation, and Muskoka boating tradition.
CLARION'S
STORY
Clarion Boats of Muskoka is owned and operated by Paul Crammond.
His lifelong connection to Muskoka began as a family cottager on Lake Rosseau in 1971. That passion for life on the water eventually led him from collecting antique wooden boats to becoming the steward of one of North America's most respected modern mahogany boat builders.

Crafted in the Heart of Muskoka
Every Clarion is designed, engineered and handcrafted in Muskoka, where generations of wooden boating tradition continue to inspire every boat we build.
A Timeline
1980's
BEGINNINGS IN THE KAWARTHAS
Beginning in the mid-1980s.
Beginning in the mid-1980s, founders Dwight and Kerstin Boyd successfully started and operated Clarion Boats in Campbellford, in the Kawartha Lakes region of Ontario, where they restored a wide variety of wooden boats from Dippys to Ditchburns.

1990's
FROM RESTORATION TO CREATION
BY the 1990s
By the 1990s, not content to work only on antique boats, and realizing that there was an underserved part of the wooden boat market, Dwight expanded his efforts to include the building of new wooden boats. He began with a very ambitious project: a Gold Cup 25-foot Gentleman’s Racer. Dwight built four of these spectacular boats and, working with esteemed marine designer Steve Killing, followed them up with eight other designs, ranging from 19 to 34 feet and including custom-built Gentleman’s Racers, Long-Deck Launches, and runabouts. Dwight built a roster of satisfied clientele across North America.

A NEW GENERATION OF CLARION
2019 - PRESENT DAY
In 2019, Dwight closed his shop, sold the boat designs to Paul Crammond, and began enjoying a well-deserved semi-retirement. Paul relocated the business to Muskoka—the heart of North American boat building since the 1920s—and rebranded it as Clarion Boats of Muskoka.
